Significance of Homelessness

One of the main subjects that this memoir treats is the experience of homelessness. It conveys the state of being without a home as temporary and often unexpected, something that people do not deserve but that is brought upon by circumstances often outside of their power. It condemns the way that people often blame homeless people for their circumstances, making assumptions that they are in that position because of an alcohol or drug addiction. This memoir includes discussions of statistics of the high rate of homelessness in certain areas, it introduces characters from diverse backgrounds and situations and describes encounters in which Ray and Moth face prejudice and discrimination because of their economic position.
