Who is Steven Childs from The Rock and the River and what is their importance?

Steven Childs is the son of civil rights activist Roland Childs and brother of Sam. Known as Stick, Steven is strong willed and often the rebel in the family. He disagrees with his father that peaceful demonstration is the correct avenue to civil rights and joins the Black Panthers. Stick looks out for his younger brother and believes him too young to join the Panthers, but Sick's own death will make that decision for Sam.
