Importance of Pocketknife

In "True Love Game," the pocketknife Gustavo carries symbolizes power. While carrying the knife, Gustavo believes himself to be indomitable. However, when one of the white boys steals the knife and challenges Gustavo to a fight without it, Gustavo must find another means of facing the bully. The knife also links Gustavo to his past, and his heritage, as the knife once belonged to his grandfather.
