The tone of the entire collection is serious and insightful, but simultaneously humorous. Orwell is never above laughing at himself when appropriate, and nearly always deliberately points out his own shortcomings and personal opinions regarding the topic of discussion. The text is generally objective in perspective; Orwell takes his personal experience and broadens it.
