How does Frank put himself at risk in honoring Eva after her death in the novel, The Queen of Palmyra?

Frank, the white man sent to help Eva sell encyclopedias, is clearly in love with Eva. After her death, he puts himself at risk by helping to lead the procession march in her honor. Frank stands out, as does his love for Eva, because he has the only white face amidst a sea of blacks.
