Saoirse's book, also titled The Queen of Dirt Island, is symbolic of identity and agency. Throughout her life, Saoirse has convinced herself that she has no right to write her own story. However, after breaking up with Josh, she decides to pen her tale. Doing so is an expression of herself, and a way for her to claim agency over her life and story.
