Frank Gianini is Mia's algebra teacher and father of her mother's baby. At the end of the novel, Mr. Gianini marries Mia's mother, which makes him her step-father. When Mr. Gianini begins to move his things into Mia and her mother's loft, Mia realizes that her Algebra teacher is cooler than she realized. His belongings include a wide screen television, a Foosball table and a pinball machine. Mia also notes that even though Mr. Gianini is practically related to her, he doesn't give her a break on her Algebra grades. She also wonders what her baby brother or sister will look like since Mr. Gianini has really huge nostrils.
