Phillipe is Mia's father and Grandmere's son. He and Helen Thermopolis had a fling in college which resulted in Mia being born. In the past, Phillipe has told his daughter that he is an important politician in Genovia but has not mentioned that he is the ruling prince. It is not until he is diagnosed with testicular cancer and the treatments leave him sterile that he is forced to tell Mia that she is next in line for the throne. After this revelation, Mia does not trust her father as much, especially when he tells her that he will take care of the huge wedding that his mother has planned for Mia's mother. In secret, however, Phillipe has planned a get-away for his daughter's mother and her fiancé so they don't have to attend Grandmere's elaborate ceremony.
One of the main characteristics of her father that Mia seems to obsess on is her father's attraction to women. The only thing about Mia's television that seems to interest him is the woman who is going to interview her, Beverly Bellerieve. Before they meet this lady, Mia's father asks only about her marital status and if she is in a relationship. When Phillipe meets Beverly and realizes how attractive she is, he attempts to start a relationship with her. Mia is surprised on several occasions when she tries to contact her father and learns that he is with Beverly. In Mia's list of things that her grandmother has been wrong about, Mia includes her grandmother's idea that her father would settle down when he found the right woman. So far this hasn't happened.
