Who is Edward V from The Princes in the Tower and what is their importance?

Edward V was the son of Edward IV and his wife, Elizabeth. He was next in line to become King of England, but was not crowned due to the successful political machinations of his uncle, Richard III. It is widely believed that Richard had Edward V killed in the tower when he was only twelve.
