Who is Habermas from The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge and what is their importance?

Habermas, a twentieth century philosopher, seems to take the side of the pragmatists, in direct oppostion to Lyotard's views. He doesn't see a contradiction between the scientific age and the possibility of reason, emancipation, and rational critical communication.
