Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962) is a French philosopher, who is the author of "The Poetics of Space." He is considered one of the leading philosophers of Europe and is the author of many other books. He is known as a modest, but unusual, man, who grew from a young man working in public administration to win a chair in philosophy.
