What is the author's style in The Poem of the Cid: Dual Language Edition ?

Language, particularly the language of the people telling this story, is very important to the meaning of this poem. Notice that in the final section of the poem it is indicated that it was first written down in the year of 1207. Before this time, however, the story was probably passed from generation to generation through word of mouth. As a result of this oral tradition, the story probably changed and mutated slightly with each generation of people who told it. Even when the poem was written down, it was written down in Spanish. While this text includes a Spanish version of the poem, those who cannot read Spanish would not be able to understand the Spanish version; the text also includes an English translation.
