Significance of a Letter

This letter written from Antoinette to Erik represents hope. Antoinette wrote the letter to Erik informing him that he had a son. This information gives Erik hope that perhaps Christine will return to him. When Pierre agrees to stay with Erik, it is this new found hope that encourages Erik to be a better person.
