The structure of this story is very unique since it consists of a variety of first-person accounts of the relationship between Erik and Christine as well as newspaper descriptions of Christine’s performance in the Manhattan Opera House. These first-person accounts recorded in 1906 consists mostly of exposition since each person only knows a small bit of the story. The reader can understand that Darius is a danger to Erik and perhaps even Pierre so the action begins to rise in that way.
