How is Juana Embodiment to the reason?

Juana sees the truth in the pearl: it brings out the evil in men. She gently tries to move her husband Kino towards abandoning it. Kino is however lost in the illusion of wealth that the pearl brings. Unfortunately Juana's reason is met with violence and abuse.
