What is importance of blood?

Blood is the primary material that Excisioners work with. It is used for a host of different magic spells, including explosions, appearing and disappearing, and is ultimately used by Ceony to turn Lira into a statue. Blood becomes symbolic of evil, cruelty, and guilt when it pertains to Lira’s use of bloody hands.
