What reasons does Charlie give for wanting to remain married to Dorothy?

Charlie wants to remain married to Dorothy because they are excellent friends, they have a family and he depends on her very much. Also, he is worried that a divorce from Dorothy would cause a scandal that people would always be able to blackmail him with. This blackmail would jeopardize any chance he has of becoming Colonial Governor or going into business in China.
