Walter finds Kitty's unfailing faith in Charlie's devotion to her humorous. When she is confident that Charlie will jump at the chance to marry her, Walter can't help but laugh as he has glimpsed some of Charlie's real character and knows that he will not leave his wife for Kitty, despite what claims he may have made to her.
