What is the setting of The Other Side of Dark by Joan Lowery Nixon?

The setting of this novel is the real world, in Houston, Texas. The characters are average American teenagers, with the exception of Jarrod who is a spoiled brat and seems to think it is alright to kill Jeanne and try to kill Stacy if they prevent him from getting his way. Jeff is also somewhat unique as he poses as a teenager but is actually an undercover police officer. Also, Stacy is a seventeen-year-old girl who has the mentality of a thirteen-year-old since she just woke from a four-year coma.
