How does the narrator get rid of the worm after removing it from his foot?

The narrator pulls the worm out of his foot under hot water running from the tub. Then he puts the worm in the tub and washes it down the drain. He pushes the plug in the drain so there isn’t a chance the worm will come back up from the drain.
