Who is Jake?

Jake arrived in the Wilderness as a teenager, and thus he does not have the same understanding of nature that Agnes does. Nevertheless, he happily receives her advice and instruction in all things Wilderness. They fall in love and commit to being life partners, although Jake is hesitant to have sex with Agnes at first, as he thinks they are too young and should take it slowly. During the Roundup, Jake and Agnes run in different directions and never see each other again.
