What are Lollipops?

The lollipops that Ranger Bob gives to Bea symbolize two things: the performative sweetness of the duplicitous Ranger Bob, and the faded memory of Agnes. Ranger Bob sweet talks Bea into believing he is an ally, when in fact, he is simply taking advantage of her trust. Each time he sees her, he gives her green lollipops to give to Agnes. This invokes the image of a nefarious stranger offering candy to a child to lure them in. Bea does not give them to Agnes, as she does not want her to taste the sweetness and yearn for it. This is symbolic, for unlike Bea, Agnes is not bewitched by Ranger Bob. She does not trust his plan to take them to the Private Lands, which turns out to be as artificial as the flavor of his candy.
