Each of the lessons comes to her as an epiphany that becomes part of her emerging maturity. Her main epiphanies are her understanding that she is part of her community and her world with the power to make it better, that she can benefit from new friends and experiences, and that she is not alone in her feelings, especially in her grief for her mother.
