What is the importance of Silent Pool in the novel, The Mysteries of Mrs. Christie?

Silent Pool was a pool of water at a place called Newlands Corner. Agatha was intrigued by both the pool and the legend surrounding it, later using the pool as a part of her orchestrated disappearance.
