Who is Malachi Stinnet from The Monstrumologist and what is their importance?

Malachi Stinnet is the only surviving Stinnet family member, following an attack by the Anthropophagi. After watching his family be attacked, Malachi sought shelter in his room with his younger sister Elizabeth, who fainted. Malachi tried to break a window and carry his sister out, but he was unable to save her, and had to watch as the monsters destroyed her. Malachi is destroyed by his guilt, and spends much of the novel focused inwardly, remembering what happened to his family.
