Where did Tilo spend her childhood in the novel, The Mistress of Spices?

Tilo's childhood home is in an unnamed village. It is apparently in India, but its location is never actually identified. From the general descriptions, it is relatively small but with at least some outside connections. It is near the sea because Tilo accidentally summons pirates.
