Issa's father is portrayed as a successful and ambitious man, who has taken on much responsibility over the years and has been a remarkable pillar for his family.

The interactions with him that Issa narrates also reveal him to be an easy-going and lighthearted man, but also someone who operates with a certain emotional reserve. He is not overly effusive or sentimental, and Issa does not recall him directly saying “I love you” to his children. Nonetheless, she calls him an excellent provider whose commitment to his family is unparalleled and demonstrated through his actions and deeds.
