What is the importance of The White Eagle in the novel, The Mirror Thief?

The White Eagle is the hotel where Crivano finds refuge throughout the majority of the novel. The innkeeper, Anzolo, helps Crivano even in his most desperate times. Crivano meets several important characters at the White Eagle, including Serena and Lunardo.
