In Act II, Annie engages in a high degree of disclosure and tells the Kellers about her stay in an almshouse. She then goes into detail about the filth and disease that surrounded her brother Jimmie and her. The two Sullivans were put with women of communicable diseases. They watched seventy out of the eighty illegitimate children die in the first year after their birth. They played with rats instead of toys and played in the deadhouse.
