Madame Vanzade is an elderly, invalid woman. She hires Christine to work in her home. Vanzande is described as a kind and generous lady, and Christine becomes very fond of her. After Christine leaves her home to move in with Claude, however, she does not provide for her in her will as she does for her other loyal servants.
