What did Grant think about the reason for the Civil War? Do you agree? Why or why not?

Grant felt the Civil War was best fought when it was to quell the growing political conflict throughout the country. I agree that this is the main reason for the Civil War, but I am glad that this war also resulted in the freeing of African Americans, even though this was not the primary initiative of Abraham Lincoln and the northern states.
