The Mask of Command

Many leaders in the past took it upon themselves to take command. Do you see any problems with this? If so, what problems? If not, why not?

I think it is the job of the leader to take command, but this should never happen without the backing of the people. If a leader does not have majority support of his or her nation or army, it is highly unlikely the leader will be successful.
