Dreams are actually seen to be all aspects of the Native American heritage. The whites have lost touch with Mother Nature and with their own history, which is equated with the loss of their own dreams. They have to steal the dreams of the Native Americans, which is symbolic for the Native Americans being assimilated into the white culture, thereby losing their own traditions and heritage.
