How does Poe explain his refusal to be a part of Sis' rescue in the novel, The Man Who Was Poe?

Although Poe exposes the kidnapping plot, and he is happy to have solved the mystery, Poe refuses to take part in actually rescuing Sis. Poe explains his refusal by telling Edmund that he is an artist, not an adventurer.
