Mr. P cannot recognize faces. He is only able to recall stored information about objects due to attention to particular features. In general, he cannot identify the content of what he sees, and apparently only sees raw sense data without a conceptual structure attached. For this reason, he cannot recognize ordinary objects in the standard ways either. His disorder affects his life by making it quite easy for him to become disoriented and not know who he is interacting with. He must accomplish daily tasks by signing to himself and when he stops his wife must redirect him to get him back on track.
