What is the only thing Eugénie can do to get her father's attention in the novel, The Mad Women’s Ball?

Although Eugénie comes from money, she is not free to govern her own life. She knows that her father will only give her attention or see value in her existence once she chooses a man to marry. Because she knows how her father will respond, Eugénie has yet to tell him that she has no intentions of marrying.
