Pachico implies that political parties use myths or imagined worlds in order to control the people. In Junkie Rabbit, the rabbit-narrator remembers how his father used to stand on the Platform and retell the stories of the rabbits’ triumphant escape from the Party. At the end of the story, the rabbit-narrator shows his preference to believe this story, rather than the reality of the General’s actions, for the rabbit-narrator remembers his time with the children instead of coming to terms with his own past. In the story, the leaves act as a kind of weapon for the General, for the leaves are drugs pacifying the people, thus allowing the General and his friends to do what they like with their power.
