The primary setting of the story is Leo and Emma’s home, which Emma inherited from her grandmother. It is a small, cramped house in a highly desirable neighborhood in London, located on Heath Street. While Emma recognizes that their house is falling apart, she cannot bear to part with it as it represents so much of her former life. Emma describes the house as “so much a part of my story, a part of my survival” (13). Emma and Leo begin and end their story in their house, which reflects the foundation of their relationship.
