What is the importance of the Stockman's Grave in the novel, The Lost Man?

Possibly the most symbolic location in the novel, the stockman's grave is the where Cameron is found dead, where Ilse hid her documents in preparation to leave Cameron, and is also the backdrop for the popular tale of the stockman. The stockman's grave is also the setting of Cameron's award winning painting, a painting that was praised for its symbolism of death and darkness.
