King Midas is a mythological figure who was rewarded for his hospitality to Dionysus' teacher Silenus. Dionysus granted Midas whatever he wished, and Midas asked for everything he touched to turn to gold. This wish was granted, and Midas soon enjoyed creating great wealth for himself. Then one day, he touched his daughter and she immediately turned into a golden statue. He prayed to the god, who told him to wash in the river Pactolus. He did so, and was cleansed.
