How does Coach Hedge control the kids?

Coach Hedge is a short man and would probably find it difficult to control the kids if it wasn't for his baseball bat and his megaphone. Before the kids have the chance to misbehave, he tells them if anything happens he will use his baseball bat on them. The megaphone, he uses every time he wants to speak to them.
