What rumor did Herriot hear about the plane he tried to buy tickets to fly home from Istanbul on?

A few months after getting home from Istanbul, Herriot heard that the plane he had tried to buy tickets for ended up crashing into the Mediterranean Sea. All the crew and most of hte passengers were killed.
