What happened to Rip?

Rip hurt two of his legs in different accidents, and both ended up being permanently paralyzed. Herriot wanted to put the dog to sleep, but his owner, Jack Scott, wanted to see if Rip could figure out how to manage with only two legs on the same side. Somehow, he did manage, and within weeks he was herding cattle again.
