What is the author's perspective in the nonfiction book, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11?
.
.
Lawrence Wright is a journalist, playwright, and the author of several nonfiction books. The Looming Tower is written with a generally objective perspective. It presents a series of events, both in the Middle East and the United States in a factual manner and generally allows the reader to draw their own conclusions. Wright does advance certain arguments about why Islamist extremism emerged and flourished and why the United States was unable to prevent the 9/11 attacks. However, his depiction of the related facts allows to reader to examine his theses critically. Wright’s one possible bias is his negative view of the CIA. In Wright’s narrative, most failures of the intelligence community originate from the Agency’s unwillingness to share resources and information. He presents strong evidence for this, but an argument could be made that blame should be spread more widely, rather than focusing on one agency.
