Who is Mike and Joe from The Long Walk and what is their importance?

Mike and Joe are brothers and members of the Hopi tribe. One of them die after falling victim to a cramp, and the other dies alongside Scramm on the side of the road. The walkers agree that having two brothers compete is absolutely wrong, as only one can possibly live.
