What happens to Walker number 9?

Walker number nine is an African American boy who develops blisters due to wearing sneakers (P.F. Flyers), although one of the hints for the walk is to not wear sneakers. He received warnings for slowing down. When he receives his ticket, the soldiers pull him out of the crowd of boys to the side of the road. One soldier pins the boy while another shoots Ewing in the head, giving him his ticket.
