Sadiku is the oldest of Baroka’s many wives. She comes to Sidi to inform her that Baroka wishes to marry her and later also reveals to Sidi that Baroka has become impotent. The news of Baroka’s impotence causes great joy for Sadiku, which shows how unhappy she is with her status as his wife. She considers the fact that no woman will have to have sex with Baroka again as a victory for all women. Despite these feelings about being married to Baroka she still attempts to convince Sidi to marry him, underscoring her character’s essential hypocrisy: she considers marriage to Baroka to be something that needs to be escaped from, but still attempts to coerce a young woman into marrying him.
