Discuss lakunle as a half baked literate

Although some of Lakunleās protestations about improvements to the village are undeniably positive (improved transport links, sanitation, and equal status for women) others are more superficial and less serious (such as his desire for cocktail parties and ballroom dancing classes). The less serious elements of progress which Lakunle advocates for serve to undercut his position: it is clear that Lakunle is in favor of modern things simply because they are modern, with no regard given to whether they would erase the local culture and traditions of Ilujinle. Lakunle professes to dislike the traditional elements of the village culture but participates in the communal performances enthusiastically, showing that he does secretly value some of cultural practices which he openly derides.
