Importance of Studebaker

The Studebaker is a symbol of separation and incrimination. Emmett’s Studebaker separates him from his father and his father’s failure because it is Emmett’s personal car. Even though the banker tries to include the car with Charlie’s estate, Emmett informs him that the car is registered to him and was bought with money that Emmett earned. The car is also a symbol of incrimination because Duchess drove Emmett’s car to the neighborhood where Ackerly lived to attack him. Townhouse tells Emmett that some police officers, as well as some detectives, came asking if he had seen Duchess, Emmett, or the Studebaker. Townhouse warns Emmett the police may blame him for Ackerly’s injuries even if Emmett was not responsible.
