Joe ignores his mother comment that he had "abandoned" his brother as well..... noting that at eighteen, Jeremy was a adult. Joe likely feels tremendous guilt, but he might also be feeling different degrees of anger and selfishness. College is important to him.... he is working toward his future, and the way things seem..... he will likely be caring for Jeremy as well.
